Privacy policy
memeity is a desktop app that keeps your meme collection in sync across your devices using your own Google Drive. This policy explains what data memeity accesses, how it's used, and where it's stored.
In short: memeity has no servers. Your memes and everything memeity knows about them stay on your devices and in your own Google Drive. The developer never receives your data, and memeity has no analytics, ads or tracking.
Google user data memeity accesses
When you sign in with Google, memeity requests one permission:
-
Google Drive, files memeity uses (
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.file). This lets memeity see, create, edit and delete only the files and folders it created itself: the memeity folder in your Drive, the memes memeity uploads into it, and memeity's metadata files. memeity cannot see or change any other file in your Google Drive.
Through the Google Drive API, memeity also reads your Google account's email address, solely to show you which account is signed in.
How memeity uses that data
- To keep the memes in your memeity folder in sync between your devices: uploading memes you add, downloading memes added on your other devices, and removing memes you delete in memeity.
- To store small metadata files (in a
.metafolder inside your memeity folder) containing the text memeity read from each image, so your other devices can search it without reading the image again. - To display your signed-in email address in the app.
memeity does not use Google user data for advertising, profiling, or training AI or machine-learning models.
Where your data is stored
On your device:
- A local copy of your memes, in a
memeityfolder in your user folder. - A search index of filenames and image text, and sync bookkeeping, in memeity's app-data folder.
- Your Google sign-in token, in your operating system's secure credential store (Windows Credential Manager).
- Your signed-in email address, in memeity's settings file.
In your Google Drive: the memeity folder, your memes, and memeity's metadata files.
Text in images is recognized on your device using your operating system's built-in text recognition. Images aren't sent to the developer or any third party for this.
Sharing
memeity does not sell, share, or transfer your data to anyone. Data only moves between your device and Google's APIs, over encrypted connections, to provide the syncing described above.
Limited Use disclosure
memeity's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Your choices and deleting your data
- Sign out: choose “Sign out of Google” from memeity's tray menu. This removes the sign-in token from your device.
- Revoke access: remove memeity at myaccount.google.com/permissions at any time.
- Delete local data: uninstall memeity, then delete the
memeityfolder in your user folder and memeity's app-data folder (on Windows,%APPDATA%\com.memeity.app). - Delete Drive data: delete the memeity folder from your Google Drive. memeity never deletes it for you.
Children
memeity is not directed to children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Significant changes will also be noted in memeity's release notes.
